Heal’s London Launches “design Ireland” Initiative

Iconic London retailer Heal’s and the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) have collaborated on presenting the largest retail showcase of Irish-made design in London for decades. DCCoI is working with Heal’s to curate a presentation of work by 20 of Ireland’s leading designers and makers across the disciplines of furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles glass and gifts.
Design Ireland at Heal’s will showcase the work of the selected Irish designers and makers during March, to coincide with Ireland being in the global spotlight for St Patrick’s Day celebrations around the world. It is the luxury retailer’s first group presentation of the work of Irish designers and makers since the store held exhibitions of products designed at the world famous Kilkenny Design Workshops in 1967 and 1972. This 2016 initiative emerged as a result of successive DCCoI exhibitions at Tent London during London Design Festival.
Featured designers and makers include Ceadogán (woollen rugs), Catherine Keenan (glass), Superfolk (printed textiles and wood), Adam Frew (ceramics), Mullan Lighting and McNutt’s Donegal Woollen Mills (textiles), many of whom are gaining a growing international following. A series of meet the maker events as well as live demonstrations in-store and in Heal’s iconic Tottenham Court Road windows will take place over the 3 week run, providing visitors to Heal’s a unique opportunity to meet the designers and craftspeople behind the products, see them at work and learn more about their designing and making process.
Design Ireland at Heal’s is in-store at Tottenham Court Road until Sunday 27th March. You can find further details here.
