26th Galway Film Fleadh

Yesterday we were in Galway for the opening of the 26th Galway Film Fleadh. Artist, Joe Caslin launched the Galway Film Fleadh 2014 by installing a large-scale portrait drawing of young man from his latest project, ‘Our Nation’s Sons’ at the Galway City Museum at the Spanish Arch. Inspired by a conversation with Joe, and in light of the ongoing national and international debate, the Galway Film Fleadh is working with Caslin in an effort to re-establish respect for and showcase the capabilities and power of Ireland’s young men.

As well as the art piece, the Galway Film Fleadh will host a panel discussion on Friday 11th July at 11am in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ballroom 3, where Joe Caslin will be joined by John Lonergan, Garda Superintendent Gerry Roche from Galway East Life Support, Frank Berry, director of Ballymun Lullaby and I Used to Live Here and Terry McMahon, director of Patrick’s Day. The panel will be chaired by Joan Freeman of Pieta House and all are welcome to attend.

The Galway Film Fleadh takes place this year from Tuesday, 8th July to Sunday, 13th July.
