Culture
A little bit of Donegal came to Dublin last Sunday for the first Donegal Live event in Temple Bar. This one-day event brought Donegal tourism and leisure interests together in a bid to attract more home holidaymakers to the county this year. There was a carnival like atmosphere with face painters, live music, traditional Irish dancing and actors performing extracts from Brian Friel’s Philadelphia Here I Come and The Faith Healer. A range of exhibitors showcased the very best the county has to offer from sight-seeing to adventure sports, sailing, equestrian breaks and cultural tourism. As the volcanic ash chaos continues, more people are opting for Staycations to avoid the potential stress of our airports – an escape to Donegal sounds like the perfect way to relax and unwind. You’ll find more information on Donegal here.

Friday Round Up
- Africa Day on Sunday in the Iveagh Gardens – get there early if you want to get in, kick off is at noon and the queues last year were around the block!
- Awards season – we attended the All Ireland Marketing Awards last night as guests of our client Nokia. The finalists for the PR Awards for Excellence were announced today and we’re shortlised for our Off The Rails – The Total Experience campaign. It is good to see the quality of work of Ireland’s marketers and that we get the chance to get together, reward success and let our hair down once in a while.
- Munster and Leinster clash on Sat night in the Magners League – should be an interesting game
- A PR man as new PM in Great Britain– who would have thought our profession could lead to such high office?!
- Travel chaos, Euro crisis, headshop clampdown – another crazy week!

Marketing
Our clients Nokia Ireland invited us to the All Ireland Marketing Awards last night in the Burlington Hotel. They sponsored the Integrated Marketing Award which went to Tesco Ireland.
We were delighted that our client Meteor won three of four the awards that they were finalists for, making them the top winner on the night (Direct Marketing Awards, Market Research Award and Sponsorship Management Awards for their sponsorship of The Apprentice). Tayto came next with their inspired Mr Tayto book gaining two awards (Marketing Innovation Award and PR Campaign Award). Denny were winners as well for their ‘Home’ campaign. We were delighted that Dublin Bikes won the New Product Award. Other winners were McDonalds for the Advertising Campaign Award and Bord Gais for the eMarketing Award. Paddy Power’s Patrick Kennedy gave an inspiring speech as he received the top award of the night – the All Ireland Marketing Champion. They have 700 staff in their Tallaght based HQ, which services their worldwide operation.
Over 700 marketeers were in attendance and the energy was very upbeat in the room. Despite the recession, there is still excellent and professional work being carried out by Irish advertising and PR agencies, with the AIM Awards making a showcase for best practice by brands and agencies alike.
