24 Hours In Dublin City Centre – The Westin Dublin

Dublin city has everything for the perfect 24 hour trip, whether it’s historical sights, inspiring museums, exceptional food and drink, or just a beautiful spot to people watch from. With so much on offer, how do you squeeze it into one overnight stay? Eamonn Casey, the Hotel Manager at The Westin Dublin, offers his top tips and advice on what to do in just 24 hours in his native city.

Favourite Dublin Tradition:

Visiting Bewley’s Café on Grafton Street for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake has long been one of my favourite city traditions, one that I started with my mother in the late 1980s. Bewley’s Café is a celebrated landmark and the name has been part of the city since 1840. It’s certainly one for those who love to sit back, relax and watch the world go by.

Best Pampering Experience:

The Warldorf Barbershop on Westmorland Street, Temple Bar, is a must visit for men. From the décor to the music, all aspects of this Dublin institution will remind you of the traditional corner barbershop that has been featured in so many classic movies. The Warldorf signature offer is the traditional hot towel shave or the traditional gent’s haircut of short, back and sides. Ask for ‘The Boss’, Liam Finnegan, and tell him I sent you.

A Must Visit:

Take an Authenticity Tour of Trinity College Dublin and immerse yourself in more than four hundred year’s of history of the college, its buildings, its traditions, and college life today. The tour includes the Book of Kells, the Zoological Museum and the Science Gallery, which are well worth a visit for adults and young visitors alike.

The Place to Shop:

My favorite area to browse is Wicklow Street, which starts at Weir & Sons on the corner of Grafton Street. The small and winding Wicklow Street leads to Exchequer Street, which has a more relaxed atmosphere, and hosts a number of specialist retailers from Loakes Shoemakers to Kiehl’s Skincare, The Kitchen Whisk, Louis Copeland Menswear, Murphy’s Ice Cream and the epicurean paradise of Fallon & Byrne.

The City’s Hidden Gem:

I like to immerse myself in Irish history at EPIC, The Irish Emigration Museum. The interactive museum is a 10 minute walk from The Westin Dublin, located in The CHQ Building. It is the world’s only fully digital museum, and features 1,500 years of Irish history, reliving some of the greatest achievements in music, literature, sport, politics, fashion and science.  Visitors can uncover the dramatic and inspiring stories of the Irish who travelled the world.
